Happy Monday! The start of a new week.
I started my day with a killer class at Starcycle this morning and heading over to my classes for the day. I have a feeling this week will fly by and I’m already excited for my weekend plans! I get to see my bff for the first time since November (holy moly) and I can’t wait.
Since it’s the start of the new week, I thought it was a good time to share with you all this start of my new journey. It’s been almost a month since I’ve started my blog, and for now it’s mostly friends and family following my stuff. I know many of you might be wondering what exactly I am doing and why, so I thought I’d answer those questions! One of my inspirations to start JMR was also wanting to help others in any way, and I’m hoping this post can give anyone a push they need to do something new.
Grab a cup of coffee and sit back because I want to tell you all why I was really inspired to start JMR!
I love to write. You guys, I love to write. That question of, “What’s your favorite subject in school?” used to always change for me. I really loved school; sometimes my favorite subject was math, english, lunch (ha!), at one point I wanted to do marine biology, but it was never history haha! During my junior year of high school I realized my absolute favorite thing was English class, because we did a lot of writing. It was ironic, because I had the teacher that no one wanted. But, I loved the challenges she gave us. I also felt like my content was good, which is always a plus. Going into college I was undeclared and I tested the waters in the business area. It was cool, but not something I wanted to study for the next 4 years. I experimented with Journalism for the next term and decided it was way more on the right path. Then when I transferred to UofP, I found Communication studies and we do a lot of writing. It’s what I love. My blog is more than just writing, but it is a very big part of it. Words can be powerful and I find communicating that way really therapeutic. So one of the reasons I decided to start JMR is so I can write and share my thoughts with everyone.
I also love fashion. This one might seem “typical” but I don’t just like to run out on shopping sprees and burn a hole in my wallet. I’m actually the opposite! But, I do really live by the “look good, feel good” motto. And I don’t mean throw on pounds of makeup and your most glamorous outfit. I just mean that instead of waking up and going to class with bedhead and a ratty sweatshirt, I feel 1000 times when I take the time to put on something I feel good in. Starting this blog is allowing me to explore all of the fun fashion and beauty trends. It’s just fun, seriously. And there really are a ton of great businesses out there that are affordable! Just last week I bought the cutest top for 9 dollars and free shipping. I definitely try to be good with my money because I have bills to pay too, but I love a good steal that will make me look and feel better, and JMR will let me share those finds with others who want to look and feel good too! Confidence is everything, and if a cute spring dress can help you feel confident, then I’m all for it.
I have always loved photography. Already I have had people asking me who takes my photos and complimenting me on my photography. You guys… my mom takes my photos <3 If you ever feel like starting a blog, picking up your Instagram a little bit, or ever just want some good photos, find someone you love and wanna spend time with and spend an afternoon exploring and taking pictures! It really is so fun. You don’t have to be a professional to do a good job at what you want to do. I was really intimidated and still am of all the amazing bloggers I look up to with flawless photos. And that’s sort of just the critic in me being hard on myself, but they started right where I am. And most of them have their friends or boyfriends take their pictures too. I am hoping to do more lifestyle and beauty posts, and those are things I can photograph on my own. I have always loved photography, and JMR gives me a great chance to do that!
I live in Portland, Oregon. I love Portland. I have lived all over the country at different points of my life, but Portland really is awesome. It’s also such a creative and innovative place. I have such respect for all of the start up companies here, and people with a vision who just want to do something on their own. Portland is the place to be creative, and it was a big influence on my want to start JMR. So many bloggers I look up to are from big fashion cities like Dallas and Houston, but I plan on taking a Portland spin on things. College has taught me what I love, and that’s great, but I also know that I don’t want a conventional 9 to 5 day job. I love fitness, and exploring, and writing, and I am determined to find something that gives me the freedom that I want. Portland is the place to do that, and I think I can use my entrepreneurial side to make JMR successful at some point.
I want something successful of my own. This reason sort of goes off the last one, but I think it is so important to have something that is just for you, like an outlet. Since I have started JMR, I have had some questions about what exactly this is that I’m doing, how you make money off of it, or get free stuff sent to you. I am not doing this for any of those reasons. Those things that make your blog a real business take a lot of time. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed I post every single day now, because I’m really trying to stay consistent, stay goal oriented, and stay committed. I would love for more to come out of this and to help other companies reach people, but it really does just take time. Having something that you’re passionate about and setting future goals is really important, and I’ve been having a lot of fun seeing where I can take JMR and what could come out of it.
I know this has been a hefty post, but I wanted to be real and vocal about why I truly have started blogging. It is a lot more than “just blogging” to me. It’s combining my passion for writing, interest in photography, love for fashion, side of creativity, and want to share with others. If you have a passion or have been wanting to give something a try, then go for it! Just stay with it, because people will definitely have their own thoughts about it, especially if you are public with it like me, but all that matters is you are happy with what you’re doing.
