Hello there! Hope everyone’s Tuesday is off to a good start. I am booking it through the week getting assignments done so I can relax during Spring Break next week! I’m headed to see my family on the East Coast for the first time in a few years, and I’m excited especially because rain is not in the forecast! If you’re headed anywhere beachy, be sure to check out my post on swimwear for last minute shopping!
This past weekend I went to visit my bff down in Eugene, OR. Sara and I met online through a roommate finding app and slowly but surely during freshman year she became my favorite friend. Since I left UofO and transferred to UofP to be in my favorite city, that meant leaving her 🙁 My trip this weekend to see her was short but much needed!
Growing up means that you gain more friends who might not live within a few miles from you. If your bff is at a different college than you, or just in a different place for other reasons, you’ve probably planned a little trip for some girl time! If you haven’t, you probably will be shortly in the future!
I thought it would be fun to document my weekend with Sara and share it with you all. If you’re going to see a friend soon, or just want girl weekend ideas, check out what Sara and I spent our weekend doing!
First thing’s first: Coffee. I taught at Starcycle in the morning so I didn’t get to Sara’s until the afternoon. We chatted in her apartment for about 30 minutes until we said, “What do you wanna do?” When we’re in Portland there are endless coffee shops we want to visit, but, Eugene doesn’t have thatttt many cute cafe’s to go to.
During freshman year my mom would come down to visit for lunch occasionally and we would always stop by Vero Espresso House for a coffee on the go! Vero brews Stumptown coffee which is based in Portland, and it is the best. I’m sure if you live in Eugene you’ve been here, but Sara and I had to go because it is still one of my favorites. Of course, we spent close to two hours just talking, catching up, and taking turns venting about whatever it was we needed to.
Next, exchange the gifts you got each other for Valentine’s Day or Christmas that you forgot to put in the mail a million times! Sara’s home is in Norway currently, and if you didn’t know, Norwegian chocolate is the best!! I get so excited when she brings me back chocolate and the bars are always huge. I got her my absolute favorite Voluspa candle and Paper Source black tea with honey and vanilla. Yum!
Get all dressed up! Sara and I both love playing with makeup, so we took time to just get ready and catch up some more, and threw out all our makeup onto the counter, of course. Sometimes primping can be really fun if you don’t go out all the time! These boots are my newest favorite and a good transition into spring if it’s too cold to show your toes yet! They can be found here at Anthropologie and currently on sale for under $100 and also limited edition!
Pick a fun place to eat! If you live in the Eugene area you’ve probably already heard of it but Sabai cafe is so good your mouth will literally water. We had this place on our minds for at least a week before we went. Not sure how we forgot to make reservations ahead of time, but it is so good that we had an hour and a half wait! I don’t think I had ever waited that long at a restaurant before. So, typically, we waited in Trader Joes for 45 minutes tasting samples and buying popcorn for that night, and then spent 30 minutes shoe shopping in Nordstrom (yes I did splurge and get new pink Birkenstocks).
Last but not least, have movie night. Going out is fun, but nothing beats a movie night with your bff, a good rom-com, matching pjs, drinks & popcorn. We watched “Never Been Kissed” from the late 90’s with Drew Barrymore in it! I had never seen it but it’s your classic rom-com. Definitely don’t recommend to any fellas out there haha!
I left pretty early the next day to teach again that afternoon, but not before telling Sara I’d buy her a coffee if she went back to Vero with me 😉 People often talk about how long-distance relationships never work, and yes they are usually talking about romantic relationships, but if you have a long distance bff, go visit them! It’s usually a short trip, but those times can be jam packed filled with fun. Or take a break one evening and have a fun girls night. Anyone else have a long-distance bff they love? ❤️
