Happy Friday everyone, I can’t believe it’s here! I have a few things I want to share with you this evening. 2017 came flying in with all it had, and we’re already heading into mid February. With the semester in full swing now, I’ve decided to share with you 3 things I have learned so far this year. I am no life expert, but I do love to share things that help me and may help others.
1. Take Care of Yourself
First and foremost this is so so important, and you might think, well duh this is a no brainer, but it’s so easy to put yourself last sometimes and not realize you should also be a priority. A top priority. I am writing this while I currently eating spaghetti, having movie night, while cuddling my dog. NO shame!
Heading into spring semester I told myself I thought I could take on more than I had last semester (even though I was already working around 4 jobs here and there). This was a mistake because my own health and happiness was quickly sacrificed so I could do as much as I could. I am a full-time college student with one job on campus and one job off campus, and a few more here and there. I decided to add another on campus job, as well as take on my new blog which I chose to put everything into.
I’m sharing this because it reminds me that I have so much time to do everything that I want. I feel proud of all the opportunities at my finger tips that I would love to do, but I also have to take a step back and remember I can’t wake up before the sun every day of the week, and sometimes it’s okay to take 30 minutes to catch up on Modern Family or This Is Us (my favorites). I love my me time and have found myself compromising it this year to take on more than I can.
No matter how eager you are to add on more to your agenda or keep yourself busy, like me, remember to schedule time to do what keeps you happy and sane. Everyone around you will appreciate it to (haha!)
2. Trust Yourself
I recently learned this one from starting this blog of mine. I have always had this little inkling to start my own “business” and let the entrepreneur in me come out, and with that, it means I mostly have to rely on myself. Of course I have done hours and hours of research and had the help of family and friends, but decisions on advertising, affiliates, posts, etc. all come from me.
With that I’ve learned how important it is to trust my initial gut feeling and go with what I think. This can be applicable to literally everything you do. That gut feeling you have is real and the more I go with my gut, the better results I get.
People often talk about trust, but usually between one another. It goes the same for yourself.
3. Independence is Hard
It’s about the raw truth for me, and while I’d like to tell you that being independent is all butterflies and rainbows and you should never ask for anyone’s help, that’s just not true. We live in a society that literally throws you into independence. I personally love living away from home, and love making my own decisions, but occasionally I want to go see my puppy and cook a meal in a real kitchen.
What I’ve learned recently is people like to hide these things. It’s, for some reason, wrong to admit that being independent is hard. It’s actually completely fine to have people around you who you can rely on when you just don’t feel like being on your own for a moment. I call my mom at least once a day and can say that with zero shame. I like to talk to my mom.
SO if you think being independent is hard sometimes, like me, go call your mom and admit it gets hard!
Last note: This is my new sweater FAV this winter and the back makes the whole thing! It is exclusive Ooh La Loft so you can only find it here. The shoes are flannel and really unique but perfect for winter. And who doesn’t love a good leather pant.
